Chester to Wrexham charity walk:

Chester to Wrexham charity walk for Bowel Cancer Research and Alderhey Children’s Hospitial Jane Todd and Emma Jones recently organised a group of women to join them to help raise money for two amazing charities - Alderhey Ronald McDonald House and Bobby Moore Bowel Cancer Fund. The 9 mile walk took place over the bank holiday weekend on Sunday 2nd May. The starting point was Chester City Centre Park with the finish line being The Red Lion pub, in Marford, Wrexham. The route took the walkers along the River Dee, through Handbridge and Eccleston down to the A483, where they turned left to walk past the Grosvenor Garden Centre before entering Rosset. The final push came at the end as they had to hike uphill for half a mile. The fundraisers all dressed in pink and carried collection buckets so passers-by could make a donation. The age of the participants ranged from just 8 years old right up to an impressive sixty-two. Jane explains the reason behind this achievement: ‘A very close friend of ours – Jonathan Ratcliffe, sadly passed away in 2008 aged just 28 due to bowel cancer and Alderhey has played a massive part in helping many of our friends’ children through difficult times, so we wanted to do our bit to give something back to support these fantastic charities.’ The group was overwhelmed by the generosity of the people in Chester and Wrexham and they managed to raise over £300 on the day. They are hoping to double this amount once all the sponsor money is collected.
